Red orange dots and a colorful tipped tail give this porcelain bird sculpture by artist Kiara Matos real character. It has a titanium glaze and is perched on a reclaimed wood base with teak oil finish. A native from Venezuela, Matos apprenticed with multiple potters and teachers including Guillermo Cuellar, Maruja Herrera, Candido Millan and Daniel Reynolds. Her work has been shown solo and collectively, in galleries and museum stores including currently at Spectrum Gallery and Store in Centerbrook, CT. She has participated and helped organize ceramic fairs for open spaces throughout Caracas. Her family moved to New Haven four years ago, where she apprenticed with Maishe Dickman and Stephen Rodriguez.
