Avery Bart is a photographer currently living in Brooklyn. He was born and raised in Madison, CT. During his time at Daniel Hand High School, he took film and digital photography class, and won multiple awards his senior year. In 2012, Avery moved to New York City to attend Fordham University at Lincoln Center. He completed his B.A. in Communications in 2016. While at Fordham, Avery continued his photography education. In the winter between 2015 and 2016, he collaborated with seven other photographers from his class on a documentary photography book in Japan. This trip inspired Avery to continue down the path of photojournalism. At the end of 2016, he spent two months in Israel gathering images and conducting interviews for a project (tentatively) titled “Chai: 18 Days of Life in Israel”. “Chai” is a combination of documentary photography and portraiture that is combined with highlighted quotes and abridged interviews. The subjects of the interviews are diverse in their ethnic, religious, socioeconomic, and political backgrounds. The goal of the project is to show the complexity of the situation in Israel/Palestine and foster discourse. Avery hopes to produce the book and display the work over the summer. Outside of his journalistic projects, Avery focuses on portrait and street photography.
