Beginning Oil Study by Diana Lord, Beginning Oil Class at Spectrum Gallery
This class is for those who have previously had an Introduction to oil painting, however, beginning painting procedures are reviewed such as the color wheel, preparing the canvas, blending primary, secondary and tertiary colors as well as an introduction to shadows and shading. After a review, the work of this more advanced class begins with stretching the canvas, exploring assorted brush styles, developing brush strokes, use of the pallet knife, color composition, studying lighting techniques and working with primer and under coating on the stretched canvas. Instructor sets up still life displays with studio props. Purpose of this class is to develop confidence applying and using oil paints and to develop your painting style. Provide your own art supplies or buy supplies from the instructor.

Teaching Artist Edward Rosado studied commercial art and graphic design at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. He worked at Hartfield & Zody’s Retail Dept. Stores and was hired as Art Director at Garwood Mills in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Moving to New Britain, CT he was Art Director at The D&L Dept. Stores of New Britain. Mr. Rosado has been a teaching artist for the Arts Center Killingworth and Spectrum Art Gallery for the past 3 years.
