Still Life Composition, watercolor on paper, 12x16 by Suzanne E. Siegel

Thursdays: Feb. 15, 22; March 1, 8, 15

$200 for 5 Classes; Members save $20

This beginning or refresher course is geared for students with limited or no experience with watercolor painting. We will explore the unique properties of this magical medium through transparent washes and layering, mingled washes, incorporating shapes of untouched paper for brilliance, and brushwork. You will gain a solid foundation for whatever path you take with watercolor by learning these basic skills. Discussion of materials, color theory, and the history of watercolor painting are included as we begin with a solid foundation of monochromatic exercises, and then explore two and three color exercises and simple compositions. Group critiques, individualized instruction, and demonstrations are included. No drawing skills are necessary. Material list available.

Teaching artist, Suzanne E. Siegel, is a highly regarded watercolorist. Suzanne takes long walks in places near the sea, searching for visual elements that excite her eye and mind. With a keen interest in such disparate visual ideas as rugged working harbors and tidal environments, knitting and improvisational quilts, Suzanne paints and prints on cotton papers with inventive textures, patterns, and sometimes includes fabrics.  Her abstract compositions in mixed media collage can remind one of architecture, aerial views, floor plans, or other structural forms.  Suzanne has experience in guiding painters at all levels.
